Pasticcino

Mobile app / Personal project / 2020

This app is a passion project that might become a reality when I retire (or sooner). Enjoy! I hope the images won't make you too hungry.

In Italy, there is a tradition that families, kids, and most likely everybody loves. Going to the pastry shop with your mom or dad as a kid was almost like going to Wonderland. The best part was when it was your turn to choose the pastries. It was always such an exciting moment since they were so delicious and colorful.

The pastry boxes look like this. Is your mouth watering yet?

As a lover of sweets and dinner parties with friends and family, I miss that sweet moment of joy. I wish I could bring that tradition to Amsterdam by opening a pastry shop and ensuring people can get their pasticcino boxes delivered to their homes. That's why I came up with this project.

In the app, I wanted to focus on the pasticcinos, like when the customer goes to the shop. The big images of the pastries and how the user would scroll through them were intended to make the experience fun and engaging (and to keep the user's mouth-watering).

Quick wireframes before focusing on the UI.

After opening the app, the user would be able to choose between buying a premade box or customizing their own.

I divided the pastries into three categories: fruit, choco, and cream. The user could easily add pastries to their basket. They could also tap on the cards to view each pastry's ingredients and details.

Great quality

The pasticcino and its ingredients' quality are the protagonists. All the ingredients are listed, and the user can filter by ingredients to ensure they don't risk an allergic reaction or upset the cousin who just started their vegan journey.

Plenty of choices

There are plenty of choices to satisfy everybody's taste. There will be premade boxes for the curious user that wants to try new things. For those who already know what they want, there will also be the "Build your tray" section, where they can pick any pastry they want.

Fast and on a budget

Each box has a price based on the number of pastries; the best part is that it's not expensive! Orders before 4 pm get delivered the same day. Pick-up after 4 pm is possible if you need your box for a dinner party that day.

Alternative design

I created another version where the user can see more pastry options and scroll through them vertically instead of horizontally. I also designed a different UI for the ingredients and the cart.

Conclusion

I had so much fun working on this project that I am seriously considering my own virtual pastry store. Hopefully, one day it will be my retirement project.
